Q: What is CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT?

A: CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT is a dual-cure (light- and/or self-cure), self-adhesive resin cement for ceramic, hybrid ceramics (e.g. EASTENIA C&B), composite resin and metal restorations. CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT provides fluoride releasing property.
Q: What is the main advantage compared to a regular resin cement?

A: The cement is a self-adhesive, auto-mixing delivery system with good adhesion properties. Main advantages are easy application, better adhesion, and easier removal of excess cement.
Q: Which proven Kuraray technology supports the results of CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT?

A: With the introduction of the first adhesive monomer in dental history, Kuraray can look back upon a long and cultivated knowledge of bonding technologies. CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT contains the adhesive monomer MDP to provide the self-adhesive characteristics to the cement, thus, to effectively penetrate into the tooth structures. In addition, CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT contains Kuraray's dual-cure catalyst (the original redox catalyst and photo-polymerization initiators) so that the cement can be applied directly from the container to the tooth structure.
Q: What are the clinical indications?

A: CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT is indicated for the following uses.
[1] Cementation of crowns, bridges, inlays and onlays made of ceramic, hybrid ceramics, composite resin or metal.
[2] Cementation of metal cores, resin cores, metal posts or glass fiber posts.
Q: Is it possible to replace PANAVIA™ F 2.0 and CLEARFIL™ ESTHETIC CEMENT from CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT?

A: No. CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT has no indications for the cementation of veneer, adhesion bridges, and amalgam bonding. Further, PANAVIA™ F 2.0 and CLEARFIL™ ESTHETIC CEMENT show higher bond strength to tooth structures (especially to enamel) compared with CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT. Therefore, we would like to recommend CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT as a routine luting cement similar to other self-adhesive cements, resin-modified glass ionomer cements, glass-ionomer cements, and zinc phosphate cements.
Q: Why should eugenol-containing materials (e.g. temporary cement) not be used?

A: Eugenol retards the polymerization process of CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT. As a result, the bonding strength and mechanical properties will decrease.
Q: Why should hemostatic agents containing ferric compounds not be used?

A: These materials may impair adhesion and may cause discoloration at the tooth margin or surrounding gingiva due to ferric ions that may remain.
Q. Can I achieve higher bond strength with the combination of ED PRIMER II?

A. Please do not use ED PRIMER II because it promotes a self-curing of the cement excessively, and working time will be shortened.
Q: Is it necessary to use a silane coupling agent?

A. If the restoration surface is made from conventional silica-based ceramic, it is necessary to use a silane coupling agent (e.g., CLEARFIL™ CERAMIC PRIMER). After sandblast and a phosphoric acid treatment of the restoration, please apply a silane coupling agent according to the Instructions for Use.
Q: How many restorations can be cemented with one syringe?

A: Approximately 15 crowns. For inlay, approximately 20 inlays. Of course, the number depends on the size of the restoration. Therefore, 20 mixing tips are included in the standard package.
Q: How much cement is left in the mixing tip?

A: Approximately 0.34 g (0.19 ml) of the cement is left in the mixing tip.
Q: What is the working time of CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT?

A: 1 minute. If the paste is applied into the cavity using the Endo tip, please start the next step (placing core or post into the cavity) within 40 seconds after application of the cement.
Q: What is the Endo tip of CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT?

A: The use of the Endo tip makes it possible to directly insert the cement paste from the front end of the post hole when fixing a post in a root canal.
Q: Is the CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT Endo tip the same as the CLEARFIL™ DC CORE AUTOMIX's one?

A: The Endo tip for CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT (‘# 2823 EU) is the same as the combined products Guide tip (S) and Mixing tip of CLEARFIL™ DC CORE AUTOMIX (# 1020 EU "Guide tip (S)" and # 1018 EU "Mixing tip).
In addition, the mixing tip of CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT is the same as # 2552 EU "Mixing tip for CLEARFIL™ ESTHETIC CEMENT".
Q: Could you tell me how to remove the excess cement?

A: The excess cement can be removed after tack light curing the excess cement for 2-5 seconds, or allowing the cement to self-cure for 3-5 minutes after placing the restoration. When removing the excess cement, please hold the restoration in place to avoid the possibility of lifting the restoration.
Q: How long does it take to accomplish chemical curing for CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT?

A: After setting the restorative materials (crown, inlay etc.), the cement cures chemically in about 5 minutes. Therefore, please wait for 5 minutes to achieve the perfect cementation after removal of the excess cement.
Q: Can LED Curing Light be used with CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT?

A: Yes. When prosthetic restorations are translucent, the curing time is 20 seconds for the final curing (Light intensity of more than 300 mW/cm2 in wavelength range from 400-515 nm; peak of emission spectrum 450-480 nm). If the curing unit light has low intensity, poor curing will result. Therefore, please check the service life of the lamp and examine the emitting tip for contamination at periodic intervals.
Q: After the cementation of resin-core or metal-core, how long should I wait for the next step?

A: Please seat the core in place for about 10 minutes and make sure the cement has been completely cured before preparing the core tooth.
Q: What is the storage condition of CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT?

A: CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT should be stored in a refrigerator (2-8°C/36-46°F) when not being used. Please keep away from extreme heat or direct sunlight.
Q: Does CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT have radiopacity?

A: Yes. The radiopacity of CLEARFIL SA CEMENT shows 170 Al% based on ISO 4049:2000.
Q. What is the film thickness of CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT?

A. It is 19 µm based on ISO 4049:2000.
Q: What is the amount of filler in CLEARFIL™ SA CEMENT?

A: The total amount of inorganic filler is approx. 45vol% (66wt%). The mean particle size is 2.5 µm.
